Layering Heat Transfer Vinyl Can be Easy!
When you own a cutting machine learning to work with vinyl is very exciting. And learning to layer heat transfer vinyl is a big step in that.
I’ve heard many of you say that you are afraid to get started with vinyl. I totally understand. I used to be intimated by new things like different materials too and vinyl was one of them.
Today I have a step by step easy approach to learning how to use heat transfer vinyl on your canvas projects!
Below are some of the key supplies you will want or need when you are working with how to layer heat transfer vinyl.
- Cricut machine
- The free SVG cut files (link below)
- Heat transfer vinyl (HTV) in choice colors
- Easypress or Iron
- T-shirt or other cloth canvas (check out my full blanks supply list here!)
- Weeding tools
- Bright pad (optional)

Now let’s talk about the process. The two most important things to remember when layering your heat transfer vinyl are…
- Always iron on the largest vinyl layer design first.
- Save the plastic coating for that largest vinyl layer design!

Remember, you can use this technique no matter what type of heat transfer layered vinyl project you do. You can just do 2, 3 or even 4 layers of vinyl! I do not recommend more than 4 for quality’s sake.
