Every year I tell myself I will make an advent calendar, so this year I decided to craft advent calendar boxes that are perfect to hold some toys and candy. These DIY printable advent calendar boxes are easy enough to print off and cut with scissors, or you can follow my tutorial for making the advent boxes with your Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore Air 2 using Print Then Cut.
If you are new to Print Then Cut or confused as to what it is, take a look at my entire tutorial on understanding Print Then Cut versus a layered SVG file.
Supplies for DIY Advent Calendar Boxes
- Scissors or cutting machine such as Cricut
- Printer – I love my Canon Pixma printer
- Scrapbooking tape or glue
- Shredded paper
- Small candies or toys
- If you are cutting by hand then you may also want a scoring board

Printable Advent Calendar Box Instructions
Start by printing out the boxes. The PNG image format can be printed to your preferred size by using your printer dialog box and setting it to scale. I recommend choosing Letter size and “fit to page” in your printer settings.
When using Cricut for Print Then Cut, I scale mine to 9.25 H x 6.5 W in Design Space. Be sure to import the SVG with the scorelines. You will need to change the Operation-type to Score and then use your Attach tool so that Cricut knows precisely where to score.
Once the scoring is complete, you will need to remove the scoring tool (but do not unload the mat) and replace it with the fine-point blade to complete the cut.
Remove your DIY advent box template from the mat by peeling the mat away from the material to help eliminate the paper from curling. Fold your advent boxes along the scorelines. If you are cutting by hand with scissors, then a scoring board can be a helpful tool.
With permanent scrapbooking tape, I add adhesive to the four edges.
Fold up each side of the DIY advent boxes and secure them with double-sided tape.
Finally, add some shredded paper and top with candies or little toys! You can display your DIY advent calendar boxes stacked in a neat pyramid or even punch small holes and string them up as a banner!
If you store them carefully in a plastic container, you can use these for several years!
