How to Cut the Lily Petals

The crepe paper lily template is simple and easy to cut by hand with a pair of detail scissors using PDF printables.

Those who own a Cricut Maker, let your cutting machine do the work for you! If you have never cut crepe paper with your machine before, it can be tricky, so check out my complete step-by-step tutorial on cutting crepe paper with your Cricut Maker machine!

Note: You must have the Cricut Maker to cut crepe paper because the rotary blade is required and only works with the Maker machine.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Crepe Paper Lily Flowers

Create easy Easter paper lily flowers from crepe paper. A nine paneled step-by-step tutorials for making crepe paper lilies with PDF printables and SVG templates for the Cricut cutting machine. Each picture is a close-up of Abbi's hands crafting each part of the crepe paper Easter lilies.

Step 1: Build the Crepe Paper Lily Flower Center

  • Cut the 24 gauge floral wire into five 2” to 2 ½” long pieces.
  • Using the yellow air-dry clay, create the lily stamen by rolling a small ball onto the tips of each of the five or six cut wire pieces.
  • Add a ball of white air-dry clay to the top of the center 18 gauge stem.
  • Once your center stem with white clay is on, add the yellow stamen to the center stem wire and secure with floral tape.

Step 2: Cut Out the Petals

With the Cricut Maker:

  • Cut your crepe paper to the size of the mat.
  • Burnish the crepe paper onto the best mat for the paper’s weight. I like to use the Cricut scraper to burnish. Make sure your crepe paper grain is vertical, running top to bottom on the cutting mat, not across.
  • Cut out six sets of large petals and six sets of small petals. This will make two crepe paper lilies.

With Scissors:

  • Using a pair of scissors (detail scissors work well), cut out the lily petals using the PDF printables.
  • Cut out six sets of large and six sets of small petals to make two lily flowers.

Step 3: Building The Petals

  • Trim the thin wire into five or six pieces, in 2 ½” to 3” pieces.
  • Pair the large petal halves together, and then pair the small petal halves together.
  • Add glue to one-half of the inside edge of a petal.
  • Place one of the cut floral wires on the glue, and sandwich the other matching petal half on top of the wire.
  • Trim and even up the overlapping tips. You have your first flower!
  • Repeat with all petal pieces.

Step 4: Add Dimension with Pan Pastels

Step 5: Assemble the Lily Flower Pieces

  • Add the three smaller lily petals evenly around the center wire with the completed stamen. Secure with floral tape around the bottom edge.
  • Add the three larger petals in offset in between the smaller ones. Secure with floral tape.
  • Shape each lily petal by gently curving them back.
  • Add optional leaves to your lily around the stem.

You did it! Pat yourself on the back as you admire your beautiful flowers! To keep these crepe paper lily flowers from fading, avoid placing them in direct sunlight.
