Paper Flower Backdrops For Birthday Parties, Baby Showers & More

Giant paper flowers are the best way to create memorable and striking paper flower backgrounds. As these pictures demonstrate, you don’t have to cover the whole wall with flowers – the display size is up to you!

1. A Rustic Birthday Background

A giant paper flower banner hangs on a wooden fence. The paper flowers on the backdrop are pink, purple, cream, blue, and deep red. A buffet table covered in a white tablecloth has a "Happy Birthday" banner hanging across the front.

This paper flower backdrop hangs over the dessert table at a birthday party, making the whole display more lively and colorful. The colors in these handcrafted paper flowers echo the floral arrangements on the table and go well with the rustic barn wood wall, bringing more cohesion to the theme.

You can find this template set on my DIY Giant Paper Flower Template page on Etsy.

2. A Fanciful Fairy Party

Colorful paper wisteria flowers hang from the ceiling over a table. A small single-tier cake sits in the center of the table below.

You don’t have to go with a backdrop with paper flowers. Instead, you can create a whimsical atmosphere by hanging banners of paper flowers from the ceiling! In this photo, colorful paper wisteria hangs over the table at a fairy-themed birthday party. If you do want to go the paper flower backdrop route, pick a wall or corner of the room and concentrate these hanging paper flowers over that area at different lengths. Not only will this add color to your celebration, but a great place for guests to take photos!

3. Holiday Photoshoots

Two young girls wearing Easter bunny ears post with their pet dog, also wearing a pair of Easter bunny ears. In the background, giant paper flowers hang on a white wall. Easter eggs are scattered on the floor around the girls and dog.

You can never have too much fun decorating for a family photoshoot. Large paper flowers made a great photo backdrop for Easter or any holiday! In this example, I love that the paper flowers aren’t the focus of the photo. The array of colors and sizes is perfect for a subtle background. Don’t you love how the color of the paper flowers match with the color of the Easter eggs?!

4. Queen For the Day

Giant paper flowers in various shades of pink adorn a wooden wall behind a party dessert table. The table is covered with a glittery gold tablecloth under cakes and cupcakes.

This pink and gold display is another example of how paper flower background decorations can make a dessert table pop and provide a central focus to your celebration. Using the right color combinations when constructing your paper flowers can also emphasize themes, like using pink and gold to represent royalty.

Find this paper flower background, which includes extra-large Everly, Priscilla, Arielle, Alana, and Emery giant flowers, in my paper flower backdrop template set at my shop on Etsy.

5. A Backyard Luau

This Moana-themed snack table includes tropical paper flowers in shades of white, pink, and blue hanging on the wall. A tropical leaf banner hangs on the front of the table, which is filled with boxes of snacks.

Colorful paper flowers in shades of pink, mint, and blue hang over a baby girl's crib on the white wall of her nursery.

This beautiful arrangement has been my number-one best-seller of all time! Backdrops with paper flowers make your baby’s first room extraordinary. This paper flower backdrop is super easy to customize to the theme of your baby’s nursery. The mixture of pinks, blue, and coral colors match with the blanket and sheets in the crib, really bringing the room together. Various colorful giant paper flowers make up this background, set up at an outdoor party. Vines of grass hang from the paper flowers, creating a perfect photo background. Cake stands and platters are laid on the table in front of the giant paper flower backdrop.

Yet another example of a dessert table set up! I fell in love with these giant standing flower decorations, which make me think of a high tea garden party meets the the whimsical Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland! This beautiful background with paper flowers is the perfect way to make a celebratory event even brighter – and it’s the perfect place for photos too!

8. A Flourishing Flower Wall

A pink and gold paper flower backdrop surrounds this three-tier birthday cake. The flowers are all different variations in shades of pink, gold, cream, and purple.

I love the elegance in this paper flower background! The pastel paper flowers surround the cake and a statement necklace, filling the frame in the photo. Floral decorations are a trend that is constantly changing but will never go out of style. With paper flower backdrops like this, you can customize your decorations and bring them to life with your own color palette for much less money than real flowers. The best part? Paper flowers last forever!

9. Celebrations of Love

A collage of two paper flower backdrops. The top photo features paper flowers in various shades of blue and purple hanging on a wooden fence. The bottom photo features white flowers, all giant and arranged around hay bales. The largest flower has white fairy lights wrapped around it.

Here are two stunning examples of outdoor paper flower walls and table accents for romantic occasions, like engagement parties, bridal showers, or weddings! Added fairy lights give dimension and brightness to the display and help to illuminate the table signs at night (so guests can still enjoy your paper flower display in the dark!). To create backdrops with paper flowers like this, you can use removable adhesives and even let your guests take a giant paper flower home as a keepsake!

Frequently Asked Questions About Backdrops with Paper Flowers

Backdrops with paper flowers can seem intimidating to the first-time flower crafter, but don’t worry! This FAQ provides answers to the most commonly asked questions and helpful links so you can learn the art of paper flower making.

What Are Some of the Best Uses for Backdrops with Paper Flowers?

A paper flower wall made with cardstock, crepe paper, or tissue paper is an easy and stunning way to decorate for any special event. How Do You Make a Paper Flower Wall?

Making a paper flower wall is really so much easier than you can imagine – you just have to have time and patience! Here’s a quick step-by-step breakdown:

  1. Choose your Backing

You can make many types of paper flower walls – the only limit is your imagination! The first thing to decide is what and where you put your flower wall. Will it be on an actual wall or an ironed sheet? Will the paper flower backdrop be inside or outside?

I’ve made PVC frames for free-standing flower backdrops and used presentation boards to make smaller flower backdrops on tables. If you are making a big display, I recommend using giant paper flowers.

  1. Arrange the Flowers on the Backdrop

Lay your flowers on the backing to find the best way to arrange them before adhering them. Take the time to really plan out the layout and play around with different arrangements! I like to use smaller flowers on the edges of the backing and place the larger flowers in the middle.

  1. Adhere the Flowers to the Backdrop

Removable command strips work well with most surfaces and are especially recommended if you want to save the paper flowers. You can also adhere the flowers using hot glue or velcro.

  1. Add Dimension

Create a flow with the paper flowers by tucking petals under the adjacent petals going in the same direction. Be sure to alternate petals so that the backing is covered completely. Alternating petals also give your display a richer, deeper look.

  1. Patience is a Virtue

As with all crafts, be patient. It may take some time to get things just right, but you can do it!
