How to Create Stems for Paper Flowers
Making small paper flowers are really fun and easy, especially if you have a cutting machine. But what if you want to put your paper flower in an arrangement or bouquet? You will need to figure out a way to stem it. Of course, I decided to share my technique to create stems for paper flowers, so making your paper floral arrangement can be a snap!
Supplies
- Small paper flower (you can view signature templates here, I’m using my peony design, or sign up for our freebie library below)
- Leaf base or an extra petal layer of whatever flower you are making
- 18 gauge wire
- Glue gun
If you are unsure of how to make small paper flowers for this project or don’t know how to upload SVG cut files to your machine, be sure to check Abbi’s flower templates as well as my introduction to Cricut design space post!
Step 1
Using your 18 gauge wire, bend it at one end at a 90-degree angle. You want the bend to start about an inch down from the top.
Step 2
Working the wire with your fingers, mold the wire into a circle.
Step 3
I’m using one of my leaf bases from my small paper flower collection in this photo here. Ultimately any leaf can do the job. Using a hole punch, make a hole in the center. If you are using SVG cut files, you can always use your Slice tool in Cricut Design Space with a circle so your machine does this part for you. I find it just as simple to punch a quick hole. 🙂
Step 4
Grab your prepared wire stem and thread it through the center hole, pushing it all the way up to the top. By doing this you have now created a base you can add the hot glue to!
Step 5
After adding a generous amount of hot glue on top of the wire circle and surrounding leaf, press your finished flower bud on till dry. It is important that you hold it there for at least 30 seconds, or it may fall off before adhered.
Can you believe how simple that is?! And it opens the door for so many other paper flower uses! Perhaps you might also be searching for a way to stem a giant paper flower. I gotcha covered with that post right here!
