How to Create Stems for Paper Flowers
Making small paper flowers are really fun and easy, especially if you have a cutting machine. But what if you want to put your paper flower in a arrangement or bouquet? You will need to figure out a way to stem it. Of course I decide to share my technique to create stems for paper flowers so making your paper floral arrangement can be a snap!
- Small paper flower (you can view signature templates here, I’m using my peony design or sign up for our freebie library below)
- Leaf base (find it here or make your own cutting out a leaf shape)
- 18 gauge wire
- Glue gun
If you are unsure of how to make small paper flowers for this project or don’t know how to upload SVG cut files to your machine be sure to check out our freebie freebie library here for templates as well as my introduction to Cricut design space post!
Using your 18 gauge wire bend it at one end at a 90 degree angle. You want the bend to start about an inch down from the top.
Working the wire with your fingers, mold the wire into a circle.
I’m using one of my leaf bases from my small paper flower collection in this photo here. Ultimately any leaf can do the job. Using a hole punch, make a hole in the center. If you are using SVG cut files you can always use your Slice tool in Cricut Design Space with a circle so you machine does this part for you. I find it just a simple to punch a quick hole. 🙂
Grab your prepared wire stem and thread it through the center hole, pushing it all the way up to the top. By doing this you have now created a base you can add the hot glue to!
After adding a generous amount of hot glue on top of the wire circle and surrounding leaf, press your finished flower bud on till dry. It is important that you hold it there for at least 30 seconds or it may fall off before adhered.
Can you believe how simple that is?! And it opens the door for so many other paper flower uses! Perhaps you might also be searching for a way to stem a giant paper flower? I gotcha covered with that post right here!
