How can I find images or projects for creating a Watercolor Card?

Many Cricut Design Space images can work with the Watercolor Markers as long as there is some white space between the colors and the layers are not directly stacked. This is important to avoid blending one color into another. You can easily change the Operation line type to Watercolor Marker and then blend the colors with the water brush pen.

Additionally, you can search “watercolor marker” in the “Search Images, Projects, and Profiles” in Design Space.

How do I select the Watercolor Marker operation?

With your image of choice selected, change the Operation to Pen. Select the color swatch next to it and choose Marker 1mm. Scroll down to the bottom to view all the Watercolor Marker color options.

What type of art can I draw with Cricut Watercolor Markers?

Simple image selections with multiple colors work best. Try not to choose images with overlapping lines, or they will bleed and blend badly. Also, try not to choose very intricate lines or detailed drawings. The watercolor markers may bleed too much in that case because the marker lines are thickly drawn.

Do I load the Water Brush into the machine?

The Water Brush is a freehand tool you can use on your Watercolor Cards once you draw with your machine. The Watercolor Markers are loaded into your Cricut to draw the design, while the Water Brush lets you blend and spread the watercolors. You do not load the Water Brush into your Cricut.

How do I use the Water Brush marker?

To use the Water Brush, unscrew the top and fill it with water. Replace the lid and gently squeeze the plastic handle to work the water into the bristles.

The Waterbrush is 4.0mm at its widest and creates thinner or wider lines of blending based on the pressure you put on the synthetic bristle brush.

How can I blend my Cricut Watercolor Markers without bleeding into other sections?

The key is to work slowly in small sections and not oversaturate the design.

How do I clean the Water blending brush?

Brush the blending brush back and forth on a spare piece of paper while gently squeezing the water through the tip until all the color releases. You can also rinse the brush under water like any other paintbrush.

Do I need to use the Water Brush within a specific time after drawing?

The Water Brush can be applied right after the design is drawn, or you can wait and blend it later.

Can I use the Water Blending Brush while the card is still on the cutting mat?

For best results, always remove the watercolor card from the mat first before you begin to blend. If you blend on the cutting mat, the moisture may make the card curl when you try and remove it.

How long does it take for the watercolor markers to dry after applying the Water Blending Brush?

It is recommended by Cricut to let your design dry overnight. But my designs were dry to the touch in about 60-90 minutes.

Can I cut the Watercolor Cards on a Cricut machine too?

Yes! You can combine operations like cut and draw with your watercolor designs!

What colors are available for watercolor pens?

Currently, Cricut offers the new Watercolor Marker colors in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, and black.

Can I use another type of paper with the Watercolor Markers?

You can, but if it is not a thick watercolor paper, it will likely wrinkle when you blend the colors with the Water Brush. You can, however, buy watercolor paper and cut it into other shapes using your Cricut, then apply the watercolor design.
