How to Make Faux Leather Hair Bows
I have embraced faux glitter leather this holiday season and shared several inspiring new designs with you all! From glitter Christmas trees to gift bows with boxes and our latest poinsettia earrings from friend Amy, you will be as in love with glitter faux leather/canvas as me by the end of the season this year!
The holiday hair bow templates I am sharing with you today are so fun and easy to make. Whether you only have a pair of scissors or own a cutting machine you can make these!
Glitter Faux Leather Hair Bows Supplies
- Cricut machine OR pair of scissors
- Faux leather or glitter canvas sheets. I love this brand here as well as Jewel Box Supply. Be sure to check out Amazon and Etsy for lots of glitter and leather sheets too!
- HTV aka iron-on vinyl if using a cutting machine (optional)
- Easypress Mini or Easypress (optional – an iron can work too)
- Alligator hair clips or headbands
- Strong grip Cricut mat and strong grip transfer tape (optional) Painter’s tape (this is if you are using a cutting machine)
- Pencil if you plan to cut by hand for tracing the templates onto the back of the canvas sheets.
- Glue gun
- Hair bow templates (find them in the freebie vault! Details to access below!) I include several bows, tails, and supporting holiday pieces like the Rudolph antlers and snowflake designs for free too!

How to Cut the Faux Leather
By Hand with Scissors
These hair bow templates are super easy for anyone with just a pair of scissors to make too. You can use the PDF printables included in the free templates to print onto a thick cardstock, then trace the templates onto the back of the chunky glitter faux leather, then cut them out with scissors.
With a Cutting Machine
You all know how much I love my Cricut machine! There are SVG cut files included in the free template designs that you can upload to Cricut Design Space – learn how to upload an SVG here.
To save your mat from getting glitter stuck all over it, use the transfer tape liner hack below!
I cut a piece of 12 x 12 strong grip transfer tape and place it white liner side up onto my strong grip mat. Once placed, remove the white liner and the sticky side of your transfer tape should be up for you to place the glitter sheet onto. This method allows you to cut without getting chunky glitter all over your mat!
Load your faux glitter leather glitter-side down on the transfer tape. Make sure to add painter’s tape around all the edges too. Then load your mat and let your machine cut.
Machine Settings
If you are cutting out chunky glitter sheets, I use my own cut setting for this project. To see how to create a chunky glitter setting for these bows read my Faux Glitter Leather Christmas Tree posts here.
If you are using a thinner fine glitter canvas/leather or a thin smooth printed leather then you can use the faux leather setting or the canvas setting in Custom Setting of Design Space.
If you follow the video and want to try adding HTV to the back of the canvas then you will want to cut out some iron-on vinyl – make sure to mirror the image! Use the Glitter or Everyday iron-vinyl setting for this.
Play with Patterns
It’s important to play around with patterns here! Not only can you make tons of different hair bow combinations with the hair bow templates but also mix glitter with playful holiday or seasonal prints! I love this nutcracker print and this candy cane print faux leather here!
