It’s Christmas time, and that means getting crafty and making gifts for people you love!

Christmas crafts are even better when you get creative with your kids. It’s a time-honored tradition to make ornaments, decorations, or holiday cards with the little ones in your life. The best holiday art projects, like these paper angel crafts, are easy for children of all ages.

For this paper craft project, there is minimal cutting required. An adult can easily cut out the pieces beforehand – you don’t need a Cricut or other cutting machine, either! Kids are great at accordion folds and gluing, so these tree and angel ornaments are easy for all ages and abilities.

I adore these singing choir angels–they’re so sweet. Angels are a popular theme in Christmas decorations, and these cuties are perfectly on point. The typical kids’ angel craft is a cut-up paper plate with construction paper. While those are cute, I’ve made these angels a little more sophisticated but simple enough for kids to make without much fuss or clean-up.

Two adorable singing angels and a Christmas tree made from folded paper and gold straws are lined up against a green pine garland. Banners at the bottom of the decorations read “Happy Holidays,” “Season’s Greetings,” and “Merry Christmas.”

Since the angel’s body is a triangle in this project, I also had to include a template for a Christmas tree! The tree craft is especially great for preschoolers – they will have a lot of fun and feel like part of the team when they add the “ornaments” to the tree!

I suggest you use this printable angel template to create an entire choir! It’s so Christmas-y to see rows of choir angels looking at their songbooks while you listen (and maybe sing along) to holiday tunes on the radio. You’ll almost believe the paper angel choir is really singing!

Truly, the best part of these little angels or trees is the simplicity. The basic cone shapes are easy for anyone, making this a family-friendly craft to gift or use as decor during the holiday season. It isn’t what you make that matters; it’s the time spent together making it.

To create this simple paper angel craft, all you need are scissors, glue, your printer, and a few extras like pipe cleaners and sequins for embellishing.

Step-by-Step Instructions for the Paper Angel and Tree Craft

Step 1: Print and Cut (Angel and Tree)

Print the templates (find them in the Freebie Vault) and cut out the angel or tree pieces with your scissors.

A PDF printout of the pieces to create an angel decoration, with the cone-shaped body already cut out of the page.

Step 2: Fold (Angel and Tree)

  • Make accordion folds in the angel’s body (or tree), back and forth, on the dotted lines. Your last fold should be at the very top.
Separate cut-out pieces of a paper angel craft template are on a brown wooden table, including the cone-shaped angel body, green and white wings, a red songbook, and a small head with black hair.

Step 3:  Insert the Straw (Angel and Tree)

  • Punch holes on the X marks on the paper angels and trees, but don’t punch any holes over the very top section.
  • Slide the paper straw through the center holes in the cone shape of the angel’s body or the tree.

Step 4: Glue the Top Piece (Angel and Tree)

  • For the paper angel craft: Glue the head of the angel to the top of the triangle. Keep the angel’s face on the front side!
  • For the paper tree craft: Glue the tree topper star to the top of the cone shape.

Step 5: Add the Angel’s Wings or the Decorations

  • For the paper angel craft: Place glue on the back of your angel where you would like to add the wings. Help young children to ensure the wings face the decorated side.
  • For the paper tree craft: Glue sequins, pom poms, or other “ornaments” to your tree. Or, let older kids cut out ornaments using different colors of pretty paper or patterned scrapbooking paper. Then, skip to Step 8.

Step 6: Add the Final Touches (Angel)

  • For the paper angel craft: Glue the songbook with hands to the front of the angel.

Step 7: Add the Halo (Angel)

  • For the paper angel craft: Cut your gold pipe cleaner in half and twist it into a round halo. Leave a tail to insert the pipe cleaner into the top of the straw.

Step 8: Add the Banner (Angel and Tree)

  • Finally, glue the “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Holidays,” or “Season’s Greetings” banner to the bottom of your Christmas craft.
