Who is the Cricut Joy Xtra for?

If you’re in the market for your first cutting machine, the Cricut Joy Xtra may just be the perfect fit – compact and lightweight at less than 6 lbs, making it a portable cutting machine that can move or fit in various spaces.

Better yet, the Xtra allows you to make all the most popular projects, such as t-shirts, cards, decals, labels, and full-colored stickers.

In other words, the Xtra is a great starter machine, and if you fall in love with using it, then you can explore upgrading to a larger machine, such as a Maker model, down the road.

Now what about existing machine owners?

If you own the original Cricut Joy machine, the Xtra may be a fantastic upgrade for you.

You can still keep things compact while giving yourself the freedom to create full-color custom stickers and other Print Then Cut projects, plus more card size variations and a wider format for bigger projects.

And if you’re a Maker or Explore owner, don’t forget to spread the joy about this starter machine with your friends and family who may be in the market for their first cutting machine.

  1. Does one have to determine depth of cut on different papers before cutting (like Scan n Cut) or does the xtra determine it for you?

    1. Cricut has preset material settings for paper and cardstock that you can select according to what material you are using. For example medium weight cardstock setting works great with 65-80 pound cardstock. There is a fine-tune pressure dropdown that can give a little more or a little less pressure if adjustments are needed. 🙂

  2. I love the shirt you are wearing. Do you have a pattern/svg for the design?

    1. I don’t yet! But thank you for letting me know you like it! I will put the idea in our design pipeline! 🙂

  3. Will the Joy extra work only on Bluetooth or can it be connect to the computer?

    1. The Joy Xtra is similar to the Joy in that it only connects via bluetooth. 🙂

  4. Shelly Goodwin says:

I have noticed that in the Cricut advertisements for the Joy Xtra they mostly show making stickers with it. Can you make the same things that you make with the Joy & Maker?

  5. If the Cricut Joy App doesn’t work with the Xtra, what app would be used to design and connect to the machine?

    1. The Joy app is being retired. You will want to use the Cricut Design Space app. 🙂
