DIY Giant Paper Amaryllis Flower Tutorial. Learn how easy it is to make large paper flowers with this step by step tutorial for beginners!

It’s time for another paper flower tutorial! As many giant flowers as I have designed over the last several years, it occurred to me that I haven’t released a new large design in many months! I set out to create a paper blossom that was inspired by the amaryllis flower.

Giant Paper Amaryllis Flowers

Recently I have been a busy bee crafting cactus plants and shaker confetti cake toppers, but I always feel most satisfied with my work after I complete a new giant flower design. This Amaryllis flower petal is unique from my traditional wider petals, and with the use of metallic cardstock, the depth of the center turned out better than I thought.

Like all my other designs, these templates come in both printable PDF, and SVG cut files so you can easily hand-cut with scissors or use your favorite cutting machine like Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore.

Like all my large paper flowers, this new Amaryllis flower can easily be made in a variety of sizes, which I explain in the video tutorial below.

Downsizing Flowers

To downsize the flower subtract the use of the extra-large petal to downsize to a large. Likewise, you can deduct the extra-large and large petal to downsize to a medium and so forth with a small.
You can still create 3 or 4 layers to keep the flower full, but only use 2 or 3 of the smaller petal sizes instead of all five-petal sizes for an overall smaller flower – and I go over this at the end of the full step by step video below!

At-A-Glance Tutorial

With all my newer giant flower released I always include at least one of my Petal Perfect bases to make achieving an even petal look flawlessly easy even for a beginner. Amaryllis comes with the 8-sided base but you can also play around with six or only seven petals per layer. View all my petal bases here!

For each flower, you will cut out eight petals in every size – one of each side of the 8-sided base, and then 4-6 center petals.

To shape your petal, cut about a 1.5 -2-inch slit at the very bottom, creased the petal down the center gently then, curl each top edge backward with your wood dowel or pencil. Finally, overlapped the slit at the base – but only slightly! An overlap of about halfway is good.

Once you have prepped your petals all the same way, you will begin adding them around the 8-sided base. Scroll down, and I will teach you how in the video!
