DIY Cricut Ornament Ideas

Cricut machines are a great way to make personalized gifts for the holiday season. By using a Cricut, makers can create custom designs for all kinds of Christmas ornaments that your family and friends will cherish for years to come. In this post, I have rounded up my favorite Cricut ornament ideas – many of them can find in our Christmas craft category!

There are many great Christmas gift ideas that you can create with your Cricut machine. For example, you can make clear ornaments with family photos inside. Or, you can create personalized ornaments with your family members’ names.

Cricut Design Space

If you’re new to making Christmas ornaments with your Cricut maker, there are a few basics that you should know before getting started.

First, if you haven’t already, you’ll need to download the Cricut Design Space software. This free program can be used to create your own designs or import other makers’ files and designs. If you are new to Cricut, take my free Cricut workshop here to get yourself started! You can also find out how to upload an SVG cut file here.

Craft Supplies For Making Ornaments

Next, you’ll need to purchase some materials to make your Cricut Christmas projects. Don’t worry too much about getting all of these items until you know which Christmas crafts you’re going to do.

For most of these projects, clear plastic ornaments are used. If you prefer, you can use clear acrylic flat ornaments (they are shaped like flattened chocolate candy). The flattened ornaments look just as beautiful, but the flat surface can easily fit your ornament design.

Another option is to use something like these wood slices with paint to make a rustic-styled DIY ornament.

Here’s a quick list of craft supplies you may want to have on hand for these DIY Christmas ornament crafts, depending on the style of ornament you’re making:

Types Of Vinyl For Christmas Ornaments

There are two main types of vinyl used in crafting – permanent and removable vinyl. Permanent vinyl is great for projects that need to withstand elements like weather or washing, like these water bottle labels. I also use it on tumblers, cups, car decals, and more.

Removable vinyl is perfect for temporary décors like wall decals, laptop stickers, and phone cases. I also use it on glassware and anything else I might want to change up later.

For ornaments, I suggest Oracal’s flat 651 permanent vinyl for crafts, especially ones with thin fonts or intricate designs.

Cricut EasyPress For Heat transfer Vinyl Ornaments

You’ll need a Cricut EasyPress if you plan on making any projects with heat transfer vinyl (HTV). I highly recommend the Cricut Easy Press Mini for small projects like these ornaments. It’s lightweight and easy to maneuver, plus it has auto-shutoff, so you don’t have to worry about leaving it on by accident. Heat transfer vinyl works really well on wood slice ornaments, fabric ornaments like canvas, or felt Christmas tree ornaments.

Creating gifts with your Cricut machine is a great way to show your loved ones how much you care. With the holiday season just around the corner, now is the perfect time to start creating your own Christmas ornaments.
