The joy of the holiday season brings no shortage of crafts. Paper poinsettias (including giant poinsettias) and star lanterns are just a few of the holiday crafts available on this blog. Now we can add DIY paper mistletoe kissing ball craft to our collection with a Christmas kissing ball and FREE templates!

This DIY paper mistletoe craft is not only super easy but also a fabulous alternative to an actual sprig of this Christmas favorite. Real mistletoe, whether white-berried or red-berried, can be toxic to pets, wilts fast, only lasts one year, and could stir up allergies. Creating easy Christmas paper crafts such as DIY mistletoe is ideal, safe, and can be used in your Christmas decorating year after year.

You can also use this same Christmas-style greenery with a poinsettia table arrangement – made with my new Snowy and Mistletoe Poinsettia Flowers!

How to Make a DIY Christmas Kissing Ball Step-by-Step (with Pictures)!

Use these photos with the step-by-step instructions to make a Christmas kissing ball you will love all holiday season!

A grid collage of 9 images shows the steps for making a DIY mistletoe kissing ball with paper, including cutting out the mistletoe leaves, forming the kissing ball, and tying a festive holiday ribbon around the finished craft.

Step 1: Gather Supplies

Gather all your supplies.

Step 2: Download Templates

Prepare your kissing ball by using the free Christmas mistletoe SVG templates provided.

Step 3: Cut Leaves and Berries

Using your cutting machine, make mistletoe leaves in varying colors. You can also cut out some berries. There is no exact number of leaves to cut, so prepare as many sprigs as you need to create the fullness you want. Using a couple of different colors for the leaves provides extra depth to your finished product.

Step 4: Create the Center of the Kissing Ball

Wrap your foam egg in green tissue paper using your glue gun. Start at the top of the egg and gather the tissue paper around the rest of the egg form. Glue the tissue paper to the bottom of the egg. You may need to remove some excess paper. This is okay as long as the majority of the egg is within the green paper.

Step 5: Glue Mistletoe Greenery

Start with your largest Christmas mistletoe greenery and glue it over the top of the egg, letting it fall down the sides.

Continue to place greenery piece by piece until the mistletoe fills out.

Step 6: Glue Berry Sprigs

Add in your berry sprigs last so they stand out.

Step 7: Attach Wire Loop

Twist a 3-inch piece of wire into a loop. Shove it into the top of the egg with a bit of glue to secure it.

Step 8: Attach Ribbon

Finish off your DIY paper mistletoe craft with a red ribbon, and hang it up!
