Paper Flower Backdrops For Birthday Parties, Baby Showers & More
Giant paper flowers are the best way to create memorable and striking paper flower backgrounds. As these pictures demonstrate, you don’t have to cover the whole wall with flowers – the display size is up to you!
1. A Rustic Birthday Background
This paper flower backdrop hangs over the dessert table at a birthday party, making the whole display more lively and colorful. The colors in these handcrafted paper flowers echo the floral arrangements on the table and go well with the rustic barn wood wall, bringing more cohesion to the theme.
You can find this template set on my DIY Giant Paper Flower Template page on Etsy.
2. A Fanciful Fairy Party
You don’t have to go with a backdrop with paper flowers. Instead, you can create a whimsical atmosphere by hanging banners of paper flowers from the ceiling! In this photo, colorful paper wisteria hangs over the table at a fairy-themed birthday party. If you do want to go the paper flower backdrop route, pick a wall or corner of the room and concentrate these hanging paper flowers over that area at different lengths. Not only will this add color to your celebration, but a great place for guests to take photos!

You can never have too much fun decorating for a family photoshoot. Large paper flowers made a great photo backdrop for Easter or any holiday! In this example, I love that the paper flowers aren’t the focus of the photo. The array of colors and sizes is perfect for a subtle background. Don’t you love how the color of the paper flowers match with the color of the Easter eggs?!

How Do You Make a Paper Flower Wall?
Making a paper flower wall is really so much easier than you can imagine – you just have to have time and patience! Here’s a quick step-by-step breakdown:
- Choose your Backing
You can make many types of paper flower walls – the only limit is your imagination! The first thing to decide is what and where you put your flower wall. Will it be on an actual wall or an ironed sheet? Will the paper flower backdrop be inside or outside?
I’ve made PVC frames for free-standing flower backdrops and used presentation boards to make smaller flower backdrops on tables. If you are making a big display, I recommend using giant paper flowers.
- Arrange the Flowers on the Backdrop
Lay your flowers on the backing to find the best way to arrange them before adhering them. Take the time to really plan out the layout and play around with different arrangements! I like to use smaller flowers on the edges of the backing and place the larger flowers in the middle.
- Adhere the Flowers to the Backdrop
Removable command strips work well with most surfaces and are especially recommended if you want to save the paper flowers. You can also adhere the flowers using hot glue or velcro.
- Add Dimension
Create a flow with the paper flowers by tucking petals under the adjacent petals going in the same direction. Be sure to alternate petals so that the backing is covered completely. Alternating petals also give your display a richer, deeper look.
- Patience is a Virtue
As with all crafts, be patient. It may take some time to get things just right, but you can do it!
